Dartmouth 2014 Student Marshal Judith Arneson, TDI '14

Hometown: Belmont, Mass. Degree: Master of Science in Health Care Leadership, The Dartmouth Institute for Health Policy and Clinical PracticeJudith Arneson worked in nursing for 20 years, between earning two bachelor's degrees—magna cum laude in French from Bryn Mawr and summa cum laude in nursing from Rush College of Nursing—and enrolling at The Dartmouth Institute for Health Policy and Clinical Practice. Her academic projects at TDI included a proposal for a diabetes decision aid; a survey of pediatric intensive care nurses at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center; a process analysis of palliative-care consultations at the White River Junction, Vt., VA Hospital; and a literature review on discharge summaries. She has commuted two hours each way to classes, and she and her husband have two children, aged 8 and 12. Yet she's missed not a single class, "which may be why my bemused classmates elected me marshal." After graduation, she hopes to find a position where she can "help improve how we go about health care in this country."Marshals are carefully selected by fellow students for their citizenship, enthusiasm, integrity, and positive impact on others. The marshals carry batons engraved with their names as they lead their classmates to the Green during the Commencement academic procession.
