President Phil Hanlon ’77, his wife, Gail Gentes, center, and Jennifer Shepherd rode their bikes in Saturday’s 35th annual Prouty Event to Fight Cancer. The Prouty features two days of athletic events—bicycling, rowing, walking, and golfing—and is a fundraiser for cancer research and care. It is sponsored by the Friends of Dartmouth-Hitchcock’s Norris Cotton Cancer Center. This year, the event raised more than $3 million. This was the third Prouty for Hanlon and Gentes, with each logging 50 miles after two years of 35-mile rides. Shepherd, who has cycled with Hanlon and Gentes for two years now, got a flat tire this year at mile 41. She plans to go back and finish the ride on her own, and says she’ll “try again next year to finish.” Shepherd, who works as senior executive assistant to Hanlon, took this photo in the driveway of the president’s house before the race, using Hanlon’s selfie stick.
