Hometown: Longmeadow, Mass. Degree: Master of Arts in Liberal StudiesAs an undergraduate at Ithaca College, Zachary Williams majored in history and minored in anthropology, then took a break from the classroom to be a wildland firefighter with the U.S. Forest Service and do reforestation work on Mauna Kea in Hawaii. Since coming to Dartmouth, he's kept one foot in the academy and one in the community—serving on the Graduate Student Council; writing a thesis on the history of patriotism in America; doing an independent study on climate change denial; working with the Dartmouth Graduate Veterans Association on service projects; and interning in U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen's Claremont, N.H., office. Williams was recently hired as the business development coordinator for Claremont, where he hopes to learn how to build a healthy, vibrant city.Marshals are carefully selected by fellow students for their citizenship, enthusiasm, integrity, and positive impact on others.
